Several recent events lead me to evaluate positively the late, but apparently decided, the Church's reaction to cases of child sexual abuse. First, the fact that has been suspended (or have resigned under pressure) to the bishops with responsibility for sexual abuse or concealment and were able to make those decisions publicly is a good start. These people can not further holding responsibilities in the Church and must be brought to justice, as says Benedict XVI will make . By the way, I think something should be done with the requirements of these crimes. Given the cultural change that has occurred, which now allows some complaints that were once unthinkable, I believe that justice should be able to investigate and rule on them even though they have spent more years than projected in the legislation.
On the other hand, action in the case of the Legionaries of Christ , including the public appreciation of its founder as offender and the involvement of that religious organization, is another sign that finally things are getting serious.
also published guidance on this matter at the very site of the Vatican (imagine that they will prove convenient to put on the cover this issue) is helping religious institutions initiate a complaint process I am convinced that will queue.
In short, even with many years of delay it seems that finally things are starting to do well.
